Places to visit

Helmsley

5.5 miles away is the chocolate box market town of Helmsley with a comprehensive range of traditional pubs, fine dining restaurants and buzzing cafes. It’s a fantastic place to while away the hours, perusing independent shops and galleries or stock up on goodies in the fantastic delicatessens and bakeries, loaded with local produce.

There’s a ruined castle, a walled garden and Europe’s largest bird of prey centre or if you’d prefer to sink into deep relaxation you can book in at the Verbena Spa.

Rievaulx Abbey

Rievaulx

Just 2.4miles from The Lazy T is the impossibly quaint village of Rievaulx. Amongst the traditional thatched cottages looms the Cistercian Rievaulx Abbey.

It a gorgeous 4 mile loop from your door with a hand illustrated map available. There’s a cafe at the Abbey for 1/2 time refreshment. If you fancy extending the walk a bit, take in the lesser known gem, Rievaulx Terrace, at the top of the bank. A stunning spot for a picnic with unparalleled views of the area.

The Coast

We are an hour away from our own stretch of Jurassic coast. Whitby is the go to destination for many tourists but I urge you to go to some of the lesser known old fishing villages. Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes are home to winding cobbled streets that have been referred to as “the Crete of Yorkshire”

There are some excellent walking trails between the villages. More information from the National Park page is linked below.
